owner/drag racer sells off his barn kept 57 Chev dragster to move to Florida from Pennsylvania

parked in the 70s, and out of the weather ever since, this was a Bel Air, but he tossed the Chevy parts and planted a 426 max wedge with an 8 3/4 and a B&M trans. Now he's heading for warmer weather and the the new owners are in vintage racing heaven!

Wayne County Speed Shop of the 1990's, does anyone know what really happened? The eventual outcome of every bullshit "under ongoing investigation"

Darrell Alderman experienced during the 1991 NHRA tour. He won 11 events in his Dodge Daytona pro stocker and led the NHRA championship points from wire to wire and never trailed anyone between the months of February and October. Warren Johnson was the second place finisher that year and he managed five event wins. Alderman’s point total advantage at the end of the season was (like Bernstein’s above) more than 3,0000.

Things went from great to horrendous in a short span after the 1991 series for Alderman. He plead guilty to federal cocaine charges and was banned from competition with the NHRA for the 1992 and 1993 seasons. He returned with a vengeance for 1994 and won the title over his teammate Scott Geoffrion. There was all the talk of nitrous usage and rampant cheating among the cars in the “Wayne County Speed Shop” camp that were never officially proven on the record but to this day the whispers still linger

from  http://bangshift.com/blog/the-top-11-most-dominant-race-cars-of-all-time.html

another account of the Wayne Country Speed Shop that is related to the comment about nitrous and cheating happened in 1996, when believe it or not, I was watching a LOT of NHRA racing, and Geoffrion and Alderman were unbeatable. Suddenly, they stated that a break in occurred at their shop, and that every last engine was hit with a hammer, and they had to stop racing:

the Wayne County Speed Shop team of Scott Geoffrion and Darrell Alderman (see "Laughing Gas," C/D, February 1996). The "Dodge Boys," as they were known to fans, had dominated the Pro Stock division for years. And then in May 1995, somebody broke into the team's shop --or as others speculate, somebody made it look like a break-in --and took a hammer to six engines, destroying them. The Wayne County team withdrew from the series for two years, citing problems in developing competitive replacement engines. The team has since gone out of business.
"Now, I don't know about you, but if I were breaking into a building and putting someone out of business, I wouldn't chop a hole in the side of it in the middle of the night," Eckman said. "I think that would be a little noisy, wouldn't you? I think I'd just burn the place down.
"But they had a hole chopped in the side of their building, with some really quiet chain saw, or a bulldozer, or something really quiet like that, and went in there and damaged all the engines --but not the trailer, not the cars, not the transmissions, and not the machinery. Isn't that strange?"
There are some drag racers who believe the Wayne County "break-in" was self-inflicted, and part of a brokered agreement with the NHRA to punish them, privately, for nitrous oxide use and thereby avoid embarrassing Chrysler Corporation, the Dodge Boys' sponsor. The FBI and insurance investigators pursued that scenario but did not confirm it. http://www.caranddriver.com/features/blowup-feature-suspicious-break-in-page-2
Warren Johnson ""You have to realize the NHRA was a co-conspirator in that whole program,"  "Wayne County ran nitrous for too long, and it was too obvious. And the NHRA, with its financial investment, and with Chrysler being the dictator there, I think, you know, they were obviously co-conspirators."  http://www.caranddriver.com/features/blowup-feature-nitrous-controversey-page-3

A vandal or vandals cut a hole in the back door of the Wayne County Speed Shop that houses the Dodge Avenger Pro Stock cars driven by Alderman and Geoffrion and destroyed all seven of the team's engines.

Team member Jim Musgrave, who discovered the destruction the morning of May 17, less than 12 hours before the team was to leave for Englishtown to compete in the Mopar Parts Nationals and the Du Pont Challenge, said it appeared that a sledgehammer was used to destroy the engines. Nothing else was damaged.

Said Musgrave, "They busted the water jackets and oil galleries, busted the distributors, intake manifolds, and oil pans. They beat the deck in on one of our new $6,000 blocks.

NEWS: The Fast Show @ The Pod 2014

If you like tuned cars, drag racing, a spot of drifting, Block-style gymkhana and the occasional pole dance and DJ/MC session – Santa Pod Raceway has the answer, with The Fast Show, March 23rd, where you can get a chance to run the famous 1/4-mile in your own car in Run What You Brung (RWYB) against some of the UK's best tuned motors.
New for 2014, 'The Pod' organisers have a new entry system "in a bid to keep standards at the top" – with a pre-entry system allowing the best cars to secure their spot in the paddock without having to be one of the first few through the gate, which should attract some of the UK's many monster modified machines.
Out on the hallowed drag strip, there are RWYB trophies available for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the street legal FWD and RWD/4WD classes and trophies for the quickest bike and non-road legal car of the day, where the really quick times should be set.
And this year the club displays have been encouraged to take their game up a gear, with the “Best Club Stand” receiving £250 cash and a Performance Direct trophy, and organisers say there should be in excess of 100 car clubs in attendance.
Naturally, there will also be "the one and only FireForce Jet Car," piloted by Martin Hill – capable of 0-250mph in under 6 seconds, which is a bucket list sight, if you've not already witnessed it.
And in "the Live Action Arena" down in the paddock, multiple time World Record holder and Pod regular, Terry Grant will have his fleet of supercars on hand for his stunts driving, which is well worth a visit. And he will be joined this year by fellow car stunner, Lee Bowers.
And, for those who think they're Kenny-of-the-Block, there's also a free Gymkhana competition in the paddock, which should be a laugh – to do and watch! This event feature is open to all vehicles and participants will be timed around an obstacle course featuring twists, turns, spins, a bit of reversing and more: Think autotesting for the yoof!
There'll also be a whole host of the UK's top name drifters slewing sideways in the paddock and, as ever, a chance to get up close and personal with all these cars.
The musical backdrop of the day will be provided car show idol DJ Richie Don and his team who will have the tunes flowing with MC’s and BeatBoxers with competitions and giveaways throughout the day including the famous Miss Fast Show competition someone will be crowned as the girl of the show.
As ever, weekend tickets with camping are available. And you can maximise your RWYB track time by taking advantage of the unlimited runs available on Saturday (into the evening) and get access to the all-new “N20” heated night club.
Modified car, drag or drift fan? Then get your tickets now and find out more at www.thefastshow.com or call 01234 782828.

"My foot slipped" says Road Magazine pal, Andy Robinson – as he gets to grips with his new car and our new Project car, a super cool cat, 503bhp supercharged V8 Jaguar XFR.
Good old Andy has already taken the fast feline up the drag strip too, just days after picking it up (top man!) and you can read the first of many instalments on the new Project XFR – which will feature a fair number of tuning enhancements – on our Project Car section of the Road website here.
And see a whole bank of images on our Facebook page too.
Do let Andy and Team Road know what you think as the project progresses... and keep your eyes peeled for more rapid project cars coming later this Summer...

VIDEO: "El Toro" R32 GT-R Skyline 1253PS!

Earlier this year we showed you Alex Keresztesi's amazing "El Toro" R32 GT-R Skyline on the dyno, knocking out over 700PS, on low boost. Now, it's run in and here it is being mapped on high boost – making an incredible 1253PS and an unreal 1429Nm torque. WOWZERS! Awesome! And watch the video right to the end to see the launch control map being added. Jees! That's a proper drag car! Love it.
